May 6, 2008 update

The casual gathering on Friday, August 8 will be at the Newfane Pro Am Par 3 outdoor pavilion and reataurant. It will include a cash bar, finger foods like chicken wings, mini beef-on-weck, veggies and maybe pizza.

The Saturday, August 9 event will be at Schulze Winery, Coomer Rd., Burt. It will also be a casual evening and include a dinner buffet, wine, beer and soft drinks. It will be an outdoor event with tents and partial indoor access. There will be DJ music, Class of 68 wine glasses, photos and memorabilia.

Costs are being finalized, but will be no more than $15. per person for Friday night, $40. for Saturday night or $50. for both evenings. Spouses, guests and friends from other classes are welcome both nights. To help with planning, we ask everyone to RSVP, but walk-ins will be welcome.

We continue to seek addresses and contact information for many classmates - check the 'Where is Everybody' section of Roger's Website http://rogerdgifford.org/class68/ please let us know if you have any leads or suggestions that will help (last city/state, married name, sibling info, employment, etc.).

We are not organizing a Sunday event or other activities, but some have expressed interest in the Erie Canal cruise. We will provide information soon about regularly scheduled Canal tours over the reunion weekend for those who want to check it out - maybe those interested can get a group started. For those with grandchildren or nostalgia for old-time Olcott and merry-go-rounds, the Olcott Carousel and twenty-five cent kiddie rides are a must stop. The Carousel is a short walk from the well-known Lakeview Village shops. If you have not been in town for a while, charter fishing is now a big thing; and even if you don't fish, walk back and see Fisherman's Park on 18-Mile Creek in Burt, it's quite impressive. If you still have adventure in you and don't mind getting wet, the Niagara River Whirlpool Jet Boat ride at Lewiston is also very exciting. In addition to the Schulze Winery, there are several other wineries in the area and wine tours have become very popular. For golfers, you can play at the Newfane Pro-Am Par 3 under the lights until midnight; and Wright's Corners now has two golf courses, 18-holes at Oak Run and 27-holes at Willowbrook.

The next planning meeting is Tuesday, June 10, 6:30pm at Schulze Winery, Coomer Rd.
